5. I do not agree with the way the movie ended. In my opinion the ending was unrealistic due to the fact that she gave her debt collector $9,000 in coins and she and her lover ended up being together. In real life things don’t always happen in the sense where every thing turns out to be perfection the end.

4. (EC) Becky decides to ignore her debt collector’s calls and never return them. She could have been honest with her employer by letting them know that she is in debt and is working hard to pay it off.

2. How could a budget affect Becky's financial life? Please explain.
A budget could help her manage her shopping addiction. She wouldn't be going over her money limit therefore she wouldn't be in debit struggling to pay the money she never had back.

3. Needs- food, car, pay all your bills ( rent, electricity, phone, etc), soup (to wash clothing),
Wants- prada shoes, designer belts, designer purses, expensive watches, makeup.
No, there is nothing that needs to be switched over from her needs to her wants.

5. No, the movie isn't realistic in the ending and I don't agree on how the movie ends. In real life your boss isn't going to pay your bills to get you out of debt or fall in love with you. The ending was basically a fairy tale. It should of shown viewers that if your in debt with bill collectors your going to need to mange your spending, or have a good paying job and work it out with bill collectors on how your going to pay them back.

Question 3
Becky talks about being able to chose between her wants and needs but truthfully all of the things she said she needed were wants the mannequins always tempting her to buy things the credit cards were another thing that she thought she needed but the more she used her credit cards the more in debt she would get. if she is calling all of that a want then she does not know the difference between a want and a need.

Becky's list
Wants                               Needs
                                         designer clothing
                                         designer bags and acsesories

question 4

because becky basalt of money in debt she kept getting calls from derrick smith but the thing is she never had the money to pay the debt she told her boss and workers that he was an ex boyfriend that has been stocking her but when they went on tv she was not expecting him to be there so everyone found out about her debt. she could have avoided everything like this if she was able to control her spending and stop using her credit cards

question 5
in some sense the end of the movie does work because she would buy everything but in the end she resists the temptations and she did not buy any thing so the mannequins applauded her for resisting the temptations to shop and also the thing that made everything before happen the green scarf she got back and she learned her lesson.

1. Becky Bloomwood is a dishonest person with an addictive personality. Her personality affects her ability to make sound decisions because she will always make the choice thats detrimental to her financial situation. She always has to spend money and have something new.

2. A budget could affect Becky's life in a positive way. She would be more organized and less likely to spend more money on wants and unnecessary accessories. Slowly but steadily, she would climb out of debt.

3.  NEEDS:

  • Money for bills
  • Money to get out of debt
  • Money for food
  • A way of transportation'
  • A stable job

     WANTS:
  • Jewelry
  • New Clothes
  • New shoes
  • A popular fashion job
Becky has an issue with identifying her wants from her needs. She can not stop spending money because she feels she needs the things she wants. I would recommend to her that she cut down on the things she wants first; she already has so much. With the money being spent on useless things, she needs to direct it towards what she needs.

4. Becky lies to all of her bill collectors who come after her. To avoid the embarrassment of her employer finding out that she was in debt, she could have simply just paid off her debt. It would not have gotten to the point where her debt collectors had to call her out on national television.

5. I don't agree with the movies' ending at all. Happy endings do not actually exist, and the way this movie ended would never have happened at all. Becky was called out on national television, and I for one think that she deserved it. There is no excuse for anyone in her age, and with her upbringing to be in that much debt, period. If this was in real life, she would have lost her best friend, the man she loved would have went with that other woman, and she probably would have ended up moving back in with her parents.

3) -Needs
Work Clothes
Car to get to work
Banking account to save money

-Wants
Gucci shoes
Louie Vuitton dress
More shoes
More Clothes
Jewelry

-Do you agree with how the movie ends? Is it realistic?
With the mahicans clapping is not real, But it was showing how she accomplished her goal of walking past stuff she likes. The part with her seeing Luke and kissing him could be realistic.

-How could a budget affect Becky's financial life?
It can be taking away from her easy because she owe money.

3.)   NeeDs less shoes
less working clothes
a car
her own house

   WanTs  to  buying expensive things
when she gets sad
or too happy
or just if something looks very good
more work clothes
more shoes
more

5.) Do you agree with how the movie ends. Yes i agree because they show how the mahican was trying to get her to buy the purse but she did a great job of refusing to not buy the purse.

4.)The way Becky deals with bill collectors is that she lets all her bills pile up and when the bill collector call her she says some sort of excuss saying that she couldn't pay the bill right now for every time the bill collector called. She could of avoided the embarsment by just telling her boss that she was having a little trouble with her bill collector and worked it out.

Russell's Confessions of a Shopaholic Blog

Question 1
Becky is airy, somewhat spoiled, and very impulsive.  She is bubbling with excitement and obsessed with shopping.  Becky's excitement and obsession with shopping combined with her access to large quantities of money and impulsive nature lead to some very questionable financial decisions.

Question 3
If I were advising Becky, this is how I would divide her wants and needs:
Needs
Food
Water
Shelter
clothes (reasonably priced)

Wants
Designer clothes
Credit cards

Becky seems to think that designer clothes and credit cards belong in the "Needs" column, but really those things are "Wants."

Question 5
Although the movies ending isn't realistic in a literal sense (with mannequins applauding her and all), I think that it is pretty realistic theoretically.  I think it makes sense that Becky would be able to resist her urge to shop easier if she was in a serious relationship with the man of her dreams.  Especially because one reason he likes her is because she was able to manage all of her debt and beat her shopping addiction by selling her nice clothes.

1. Becky Is a compulsive person she doesn't have a lot of self control, and she doesn't reason well with herself, that make its easy for her to shop into debt, and tell herself its okay because she "needs it" or its useful.
3.  No because moving the material things that are not vital to her wellbeing to the needs column would not help stabilize her financial portfolio.
5. I don't think its realistic for her to just overcome her shopping addiction and then everything is fine, and happily ever after, it would take time and loss to fix the mess she's made of her financial life and to stop spending.

3. Throughout the movie it becomes clear that many of her purchases are excessive and she only needs to buy a few things if she is planning on getting out of financial debt, she needs to stop shopping in general, and just spend her money on the things she truly needs.
Needs: pay the rent
her best friends bridesmaid dress
Wants: The Green Scarf
A dress for the interview
gloves from the sale

4. Becky could have responded right away to the debt collectors calls. Maybe if she responded quicker and explained her situation then it wouldn’t have spiraled out of control in the way that it did. But by putting it off it ruined her credibility and her job.

5. I don’t think that it makes sense for every part of her life to work out in the way that it did. It does make sense that she would get a lot of money by selling her clothes, and that her best friend would forgive her. But it doesn’t make sense that every problem she had would be resloved just by paying off her debt. Also it makes it seem like her love life is more important than her debt.

Confessions of a Shopaholic

3.

 Needs
 Wants
 Food/water
 technology
 clothes (to a degree)
 nice house
 a house/bed
 expensive clothes/shoes
 money
 vehicle

Clothes and money can be moved from want and need

5.  I believe the movie has very little realistic values because Becky seemed to be very inclined on shopped daily and never to get over that want. By the end she was selling her clothes, shoes, and accessories easily with no sweat as she seemed not to be bothered by it at all.

2. A budget would put Becky's life under control financially. She would have been out of massive debt with the bill collector, Derek Smeath.

Confessions of a Shopaholic- Mahogany Patterson

Becky Bloomwood is an inspirational, irresponsible, but a dreamer. Becky has an personality of how she needs to shop to make her world seem better and escape the reality of life to fulfill her needs as a person, but this type of personality gets in the way of the people she loves and how she has to choose  between love or clothes. Becky becomes this individual who can not seem to have her finances in order she spent every penny she has until she comes with a payment of 9,000 dollars.

This budget that Becky has gotten herself into she cannot buy anything she sees in stores because there is no more money to spend, so trying to juggle a job that she is already in to get into her dream job and have all the clothes and shoes for her world to be happy.

NEEDS
  • pay rent
  • pay credit bills
  • to attend friends wedding
  • to work for her dream job
  • to avoid hurting the ones you love

WANTS
  • to buy every clothes, shoes
  • to spend every dime in her pocket
  • avoiding credit payments
  • to avoid paying rent
  • reach to her dream job
  • to make it to the top

Becky has a tendency to tell the bill collectors that she has moved to fitzland, she is sick, she has been in the hospital, etc… by telling every lie in the book that she can possibly tell. Once her bill collector caught up to her he had confronted her on national television and told the she was in debt and refused to pay it. Becky could of did the responsible thing by not lying to her boss about the debt but telling him that she was in debt and avoiding loosing her job and being embraced on national television.

I agree with the way Becky tried to make things right between her friend by selling all her clothes and shoes and purses, to get back the brides maid dress for the wedding and to raise enough money to pay off her credit payments so the bill collector can stop harassing her. One thing about the end was how the guy automatically found her and the talk was simple but then it turned into them kissing and now being in love, that was not realistic but much of a fairytale story of some sort.

Confessions of a Shopaholic- Ajah Miller, Period 8- April 2, 2015

Needs
Wants
Pay off Debts
Designer Clothing
Pay Rent, Apartment
A Job at Alette
Food
Expensive shoes and Jewelry
Basic Clothing
Stable Job

I think that the movie ended pretty unrealistically. Normally in life there are no happy endings. Many people do end up happy but they don’t get everything they want and barely make any sacrifices for it. She got the guy and the job but realistically she would’ve only gotten one. However, it was reasonable that her clothes would be worth enough to pay off her bills so she should’ve sold them in the beginning.

3. I think that all of the fashion purchases that Becky makes are superfluous and aren't very necessary, especially if she already has similar items. Fashion is a want after you have met basic needs to look presentable. To divide needs and wants, I would have to have her really examine what she can live without.
Wants
Dresses
Scarves
Shoes
Coats
Needs
Housing
Insurance
Savings

5. I think that the ending is unrealistic because you con't expect someone to come in to save you. ¨sully if you are in that much debt, you would need to file for bankruptcy.

3. Becky, from Confessions of a Shopaholic believes she can determine her "needs" from her "wants." This is untrue, throughout the movie Becky has a huge problem with buying things that she already has tons of and aren't necessary for surviving in the world. She is a shopaholic, meaning she buys items that she likes, not that she needs.
NEEDS: Housing, friends, a job, utensils, food, warm clothing, toilet trees etc
WANTS: Extravagant shoes, fancy clothing, the newest styles, scarves, expensive coats etc
Some of Becky's wants could move to her "needs" if she didn't buy tons of that exact same object. Becky's problem is buying things in the same category that she already has clothing in. This makes her closet bust open, full of unnecessary clothes she doesn't even wear.

5. I do agree with how the movie ends and believe its realistic. I don't feel as if Becky would repay Mr. Shneev with all pennies, but that wasn't for realistic-ness but for the enjoyment of their audience. Becky was able to receive a lot of her money back by selling all of her clothes that she didn't need, this helped repay her debt. Not only is she able to repay off her debt but she also gets the guy of her dreams, the guy shes been in love with throughout the whole movie. I loved this movie and thought the ending was very cute.

Confessions of a Shopaholic- Kyra Loew

Kyra Loew
Period 8

  1. Becky is peppy and energetic but also possessive and naive. She doesn’t express much restraint in spending her money in order to own several clothes, shoes, and purses. Instead of facing her debt and debt collector, she avoids the situations and hides behind unreasonable excuses. Instead of facing her debt, she turns a blind eye and lets it grow until she eventually loses everything. Although Becky has a cheerful, bubbly personality, it makes her lack responsibility and restraint over her bills.

3.  Wants: (What she thinks she needs)

  • Designer clothes, dresses
  • Scarfs
  • New purses
  • Shoes
  • Wallets
  • Jewelry
  • Make-up

    Needs:

  • A home/shelter
  • Food
  • Running water
  • Electricity
  • Heat
  • Paid debt
  • Clothing and shoes (doesn’t need to be in excess or overpriced)
  • Money

5. The movie ends by exposing all the lies Becky was holding from her boss, best friend, family, and her long-avoided bill collector, Derek Smeath. Succumbing to the desire of shopping, Becky accumulated thousands of dollars of debt on her credit card. The movie ended with her being overwhelmed by all the unleashed conflicts of her dishonesty and possessiveness. However, all is quickly resolved when she finally resolves her debt and regains her integrity by selling all her beloved belongings. This is sealed when she decides to give up her green scarf to another girl at an auction. I felt the ending of the movie was rushed by placing all the conflicts at the end; as soon as she hit rock bottom, a solution followed right after. Instead of making Becky constantly run from her problems, it should include more of her struggle with her ‘addiction’, but that would probably take away from the humor. I feel Becky having trouble pulling away from the temptation of spending her money would be a more realistic ending.
